Like us normal people, companies also pay a lot of attention to sustainable practices nowadays. From opting for eco-friendly construction to using less polluting vehicles like cycles inside the campus, companies are doing all that they can to fight climate change.
One small aspect that is not given so much importance is eco-friendly packaging for corporate gifts. Since most of the gifts are provided as e-gifts, the concept of eco-friendly packing does not gain much significance.
But what if the company is providing gifts in physical form? Those gifts should be packed in such a way that sustainability is kept in mind. Let us have a look at a few eco-friendly ways of packing corporate gifts that can contribute towards the common cause of sustainability.
Ditch those bubble wraps and plastic wrapping materials and go for compostable packing that are eco-friendly and contribute towards the sustainable cause. Cornstarch packing peanuts and cassava-based packing are biodegradable and make great compostable packing material.
If biodegradable materials are not easily available, you can opt for recyclable materials that can be used again and again. For example, a simple cardboard box can be reused for packing or small projects.
Corrugated dividers and sugarcane pulp inserts are also excellent recyclable packing materials.
If you think that providing a large corporate gift will make a great impression, then you are wrong. Try to avoid oversized packing and select ones that can just accommodate the gift. This can save space and cost and indirectly contribute towards sustainability.
Instead of purchasing one packing material at a time, you can purchase materials in bulk and stock them. This way, you can save cost, reduce carbon footprint, and contribute towards sustainability.
It is not always possible to do away with plastic usage. If, by any chance, you are using plastic for packing purposes, make sure that it is recyclable plastic. This way, you can reduce the impact on the environment.
Eco-friendly packing is not restricted to the material alone. The ink you use for labeling should also be eco-friendly. Algae-based and soy-based inks are considered more sustainable options.
If eco-friendly ink is not readily available, you can use refillable ink to reduce plastic consumption.
Like ink, the adhesive used for packing also requires consideration. Since reusing adhesive may not work well, ensure you use recyclable adhesives to minimize environmental impact.
If gifts are provided during festive seasons like Eid, select the wrapper wisely to go with the festival's theme. For example, wrapping papers with 'Eid' symbols or text printed on them are ideal choices.
Similarly, for employee birthdays, ensure the wrapper has ‘Happy Birthday’ written on it.
The packing material you use should be biodegradable or reusable. Avoid one-time use materials as they are not eco-friendly. High-quality packing material provides a premium feel.
The type of packing should also match the gift. For example, high-end gifts for clients can be presented in reusable wooden cases or velvet boxes.
Providing finishing touches enhances the overall look. Stickers, bows, or tissue paper can create a more beautiful presentation.
Add a personal touch with company logos, cards, or handwritten notes. For festival gifts, mention the recipient’s name for a thoughtful presentation.
Consider brand identity while packing corporate gifts, as it reflects the company’s personality. Use brand colors or customized packaging with logos to make the gifts stand out.
If, as a company, you want to contribute towards sustainability, gifting digital gifts is an ideal choice. Experience vouchers, for example, require minimal or no packaging. Even if packed, the small size ensures minimal environmental impact.
